These are good - I don't know where you find this stuff. Well, if I click on the link I know, but I mean how you originally locate the stuff.
Virginia - The Old Dominion State, cardinal and I don't know.
The sunshine state.
"In God we Trust". Very surprised some crazy did not take the God out yet.
The mockingbird. You know, those lovely birds that chase you down for your hair or attack your dogs and cats if they get too close to their nests. lovely birds.
I like the Oregon motto the best. very funny.
NM is "The Land of Enchantment" & our state bird is the Road Runner. I have no idea what the flower is.
We like to say The Land of Entrapment :)
Our Gov. just bailed on the Obama cabinet as well.
This a NM News Update!
Tennessee's motto is 'Agriculture and Commerce', state bird is the mockingbird, and the state flower is Iris. Had to learn that in grade school and why I still remember it I'll never know!
Virginia
Motto: "Sic Semper Tyrannis" (I don't have a clue what it means, but I learned it in elementary school!)
Bird: Cardinal
Flower: Dogwood
Yes, I was once an Education major:)
BTW - That .4 lb. you lost in your sleep? It TOTALLY counts!!!!
Hilarious! I know nothing about my new state except it's full of fruits and nuts (can you guess where I live?). LOL!
Motto: Virtue, Liberty and Independance
Bird: Ruffed Grouse
Flower: Mountain Laurel
What is yours?
Ok, CBW, I just looked up the official wiki slogans....which differs from all the license plate and common slogans because the lovely state of Virginia is: Sic semper tyrannis(latin), translated to:"Thus always to tyrants". Yeah, I know, try putting that as an answer on a pop quiz...or your license plate.
Buzy Suz, You cheated, didn't you? Dang, now I can't play gotcha! BTW, the mocking bird should be the state bird here in TX because they are arrogant (and ugly) SOBs. They even dive bomb JJ and anyone in the pool at dusk.
But really, the TX bird is probably the vulture because they are always up there circling. I'm starting to take it personally.
Hollywood, Yep, Land of Enchantment, but wiki says, Crescit eundo (latin) which translates to "It grows as it goes". What the heck does that mean? No wonder no one puts that on their license plate. Besides a great deal of NM is too baron to grow much...I mean like its a desert with radioactive sand (jk). HA! The Roadrunner...beep beep!
I.Woody, You nailed it too...even though I could have sworn Tennessee's was "The Volunteer State". I bet Vol Fan agrees with me...maybe.
BHE, You show off, you! I bet CBW could kick herself for not checking with you before posting...but then she was the first to post so that counts for something. The .4 lbs I lost was probably in my fingers from blogging.
Caroline, I sure do know where you are! I spent my life there...and miss that ocean! Of course, the motto is "Eureka!", meaning "I found it". Of course where I worked they thought the motto was "El Norte Mexico" (please! no hate comments, its a joke).
Rebeckah, you nailed it too! I am not surprised!
Now Texas...according to wiki it's, "Remember the Alamo". The flower is the BlueBell...which is easy to remember because if a product doesn't have the lone star on it, it has a blue bell, or it's called Blue Bell...as in ice cream or cookies ....seriously!
How 'bout Va's slogan:
"Virginia is for Lover's"
Grandma J. - Check your inbox regarding a potential change to dates.
Also, I considered dogwood the state tree, so that's why I didn't talk about it...although I had no clue about the motto. BHE wins, for sure. I almost stuck in Cool Breeze's "Virginia is for Lovers" too - we've had that forever.
I think they made a typo - I believe what they meant to say was Virginia is for Wine Lovers.
Yep I know CA from 4th grade California history...Eureka! Golden State, Poppy, Quail, Grey Whale, Dogface butterfly...but I had to chuckle at Utah...and feel sad about MI because it won't be tru for much longer....I enjoyed reading them...and then making some up of my own!
My favorite, of course, is the one from Utah!
I just came back to thank you for teaching everyone something today : ).
I educated my little family tonight at supper. Kaishon said, "I learn all day at school and then I come home and learn here too." I told him to thank you : ).
Texas Tree - Pecan
Bird - Mockingbird
Motto - Lonestar State
Flower - Bluebonnet
Dish - Chili
They crammed it all in during mandatory 7th grade Texas history. I don't think other states make their students have a whole year on the history of their state, but then Texas is by far the best state. Too bad I don't live there anymore. =)
