Over The River, and Through The Woods

Well OK, I went over the river...but there aren't any woods to go through, but there is a scenic route to the adorable, quaint little town of Salado, Texas. You actually go over a river, called the Little River, and a reservoir called Stillhouse Hollow Lake.

I really need to go to Salado more often, and definitely when the weather is more suitable to walking around town. But for today, I have two birthdays next Sunday, and I decided to look for something different and unique...so it was off to Salado.

You can click on this picture to see the kids cooling off in the Salado Creek, from the natural Salado Springs.

I love this fence made out of bicycles. It's along a bike trail that runs through town and around the park.

I did bet some shopping done, and wandered around a few antique shops, but the heat!! Seriously, there's only so much walking you can do in hot humid weather, so it was adios for today.

My last stop was the post office to mail the birthday packages.

You guys remember Jack, right? He thinks Grandma J is nuts, and I wouldn't want to ruin his day by telling him the real reason I take his picture. Do you think all of his tattoos are on his arms?

Salado looks beautiful and peaceful. I'd love to hear about the shops there. You're a brave woman going out walking when the temperatures are in triple digits.

LOL at Colin's comment.

Stay cool!

Salado sounds quaint, you definitely should go
back on a cooler day and take more pictures.

In fact, I think you should add yet another talent to your resume....travel and/or restaurant critic. You should book a room in town here and sample all the local restaurants. Write us up a good report complete with pictures and most importantly Grandma J.'s wit.

Then you can tell us more about tattoos and nuts.

i do not see the grandma j tatoo that once graced jack's bulging biceps though. p.s. no concern of sending a package usps after the "journey" j bear took?... he he...

They used to have the Highland Games in Salado.

I've been there! (my sister lives in Hewitt) I like shopping like that- quaint little shops. I remember having a tastey chicken salad sandwich for lunch.
??Do you have some secrets about Jack you want to share??

I wonder if it hurt when Jack got those "other" tattoos...

I think you should ask to interview Jack...tell him we said so. It is my experience that when you have that many tattoos, they usually extend to the nether regions.

I can not wait to hang out with you!!!

I guess if you can pierce your thing-a-ma-jiggy, a tattoo isn't any worse. Ewwww, I just grossed myself out.

No way! I think he has way more tatoos. I can't even imagine where they are or what they look like : ). Maybe if you keep going to the post office to mail things and you will get to know each other better. I mean, really, in the name of good journalism, I think you need to pursue this man : )
