Bon appétit!
Yes, I decided to see Julie & Julia, and I'm glad I did. I was the only one in the theatre....making me wish it was a musical so I could sing at the top of my lungs and maybe dance in the aisle. Have you ever done that? Have you ever wanted to?
True confessions: Don't tell anyone, but Grandma J danced in the aisles with two of her grandchildren when they saw Pooh's Heffalump Movie. They were the only ones in the theatre on a dreary weekday, and had a blast.
OK, here's my review on Julie & Julia, since everyone is ticked that Grandma J took too long to post her review has probably already seen it anyway......
Streep mastered the role perfectly, and don't be surprised if she nominated for an Oscar. If she's not, it will be because the story is basically bland....you know, about a blogger who throws her own identity away, and pretty much takes on the identity of her cooking idol, Julia Child.
She dresses like her, and watches videos and reruns of Julia cooking....imitating her moves, and voice. As a blogger, Grandma J was a bit jealous that she hadn't thought about this very idea herself because God knows she could probably eat Julie and Julia both under the table loves butter just as much, if not more than both of them.
Julie, goes through several meltdowns in her quest to cook 524ish recipes in 365 days. Between her job as a public servant, inadequate kitchen, and perfect husband (who tries so hard to understand), she starts to doubt her ability to reach her goal.
Though Julie has a few major disappointments, having nothing to do with her cooking abilities.....she perseveres.
I've come to the conclusion that there's nothing Meryl Streep can't do.....in this instance, it's not just the perfect accent and voice of Julia Child, but the whole body language, and nervous giddy giggling that I remember seeing on a TV show called something like Julia's Kitchen.
The parallels in the movie are quite good....
Grandma J gives this movie four out of five ducks....because she could never de-bone a duck, and that's the truth.

I saw the movie too. Too much talk about butter and ducks for me. Julie seemed to have a serious hormone imbalance.

I just saw Time Travelers Wife, - Eh...maybe 2.5 stars. Doug and the kids saw - Pinyo or paiou or Panyo....kids loved it, Dad says it was enjoyable, but had a very evolution/green message.
I adore Meryl Streep and would pay to see her debone a chicken or duck, in a mud puddle! The last movie I saw with her in it was Doubt and it was superb. It was disturbing, but she was absolutely amazing.
Can't wait to see this as I adored Julia Child.
I agree--Meryl Streep is beyond amazing. I could probably be safe in saying she is the best actress EVER.
I haven't seen this one yet, but I would like to! But that would mean I would actually have to go to the theater, or rent a DVD.
Oh, Lord. I'm so glad you saw this movie and even happier that you loved it.
Grandma J. will earn her own Oscar with the starring role in the crab porn movie which is about to come out, pending the safe arrival of Mr. Crab.
I love your reviews and this one did NOT dissapoint. I look forward to seeing this.
The girls and I saw BandSlam and it was excellent. I had not a clue of the move aside from what lindsay told me and the fact that rotten tomatoes gave it an 80% good rating. IT was great. Take the grandkids when they are not busy. :)
Hugs, Suz
I want to see this so bad. Do you think I would have any luck making the boys sit thru it? Yeah, I didn't think so! So I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD! : )
So glad you went! And SO so SO glad you danced at the Heffalump movie. I want to be just like you some day! Just exactly like you.
Another wonderful review! I think I would like this movie!
i thought it looked pretty good grandma j, and your ducks confirm it!!
I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. Great blog by the way..
I am so looking forward to seeing that movie. I remember Julia Child's shows from when I was a little girl and she was wonderful.
Oh, and I can de-bone anything as long as it's been boiled long enough. ;-)
Meryl Streep has such depth.
I can't wait to see this one.
I am so glad you reviewed this movie. I did not realise that it was about a blogger that wanted to live the life of Julia Child, which has kind of ruined it for me, BUT I love Meryl Streep and will see her in anything!
My sister and I planned to see this movie this past weekend, but we were running 100 mph. Maybe this weekend if the stars are perfectly aligned!
Thanks for the review, Grama J!!!
I don't want to de-bone anything - ever. Thanks for the review. What do I have to do to have the theater to myself?
I totally understand about the difference from the photography class to your house. I was hoping it would be in your town. Because, you know, meeting you would be so wonderful : ) I really am so thankful for you! When I miss my Grandma's I just pop over to your page and I feel happy again. Happy and loved! So, thank you, from the very bottom of my heart for being so special : ) XO
You are right, someday we will get to meet. And it will be perfect. And I will bring cute Gary : ) and naughty Kaish! And you can give me lots of parenting advice. And marriage advice too : )! Much love!
