It's Time For A - Z MONDAY

This week's letter is W, and boy does Grandma J hate it when she has to think too hard on Monday morning because it seems like we just did the letter W the other day she slept right through the whole morning.

My W word is WAGON.....

Didn't everyone have a red wagon growing up? If not, it's because your older brother got one, and never shared.

Our family bought a brand spanking new 1955 Ford Stationwagon to forge ahead to Southern CA, where Grandma J's father had no job, relatives or friends. All he had was a wife, four kids, and a burning desire to never spend another winter in New England. Oh and yes, we had the two door model because it made it so much easier to kick Rita's pressure cooker to the pavement as you climbed out of the back seat.

Of course farmers had Wagons like this powered by real horses!

This is how New Englanders traveled out west before Ford came up with the stationWagon.

Here is the promo ad that ran on all the network channels for the deluxe covered Wagon, fit for a family of six, traveling across country.

Can you say "cute"? Grandma J can just imagine Jen having a Wagon like this, because birds love her and they do all kinds of stuff to make her blog special.....very special.

And you knew Grandma J wouldn't let Phillip Johnny Bob go without a Wagon!

Be sure and visit A to Z Mondays, and read all the other W posts. Hey, and it's not too late to join in.

I still have TWO little red wagons, although, one has been painted silver so it can be in a parades!

Our family had a Chevy wagon with real wood paneling. First one on the block with ELECTRIC windows. Dad thought we would break the windows them by playing with them so he always locked them from the driver's seat. =(

I was just thinking about station wagons the other day! I always thought the people that had wood paneled ones were the coolest. Ours was solid blue. And it was cool. We used to fight over who could sit in the back. That makes me laugh now : )

This is great. IF I was a parent in the 50's, I would have had a big ol' wagon too. I can't imagine them only being 2 doors though...but I suppose the back seat faced the BACK already. How is that....looking where you went instead of where you are going. Kinda like my days....

We had this one fabulous Ford station wagon that had pop up seats in the back area...I loved sitting in those. I felt cool.

I also had a little red wagon that I would decorate as a parade float and pull my baby sister around in and make her wave properly...then one day the wagon disappeared and I was so sad.

My parents moved to CA in 1953 with 2 kids...same thing- no job, no relatives or friends...just an old Chrysler and a parakeet! I was the only one in the family born in CA...never saw snow until I was old enough to drive to it!

Love the "W,"- mine would be Washington cuz I was just there for the Seattle Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon...but your wagon post is a great one...I had a little one and my kids have the full size...the real metal kind not the plastic crap that is sold now.

Happy Monday, lMnop

I hope that wagon has pontoons, because you're gonna need them to get PJB through the flood outside!

I can identify. Got a Radio Flyer rusting out back. Had an Olds Ciera wagon that we took across the country, National Lampoon Vacation style, in '98. Thanks for the memories (never had a Conestoga - not THAT old!)

WE had a wonderful old red station wagon. I think it was a '68...I loved that car, and remember sitting in the WAY back, when it was still ok to let the kids flop around the car with no seat belts on...great memories.

Oh! I do have a question for you, and seeing how you blog is called "Ask Grama J" I hope it's ok...how do you do the cool strike through font? I love that!

A 2-door wagon? What a long crawl that would have been from the very back.

Okay, I'm joining a-z next Monday. I will remember. I will remember. I will remember...

We had a station wagon growing up and my parents kept it for 18yrs. At the end of its life, when my sister started driving it didn't do reverse.......that makes for an exciting time in the mall parking lot!!!!
