Visiting The DMV

No matter where you live, if you own a car, you have to register it.   Here in Texas we don't have a Department of Motor Vehicles....or DMV.  No sireeeeee, it's The Texas Department of Public Safety.    And, besides that, you have to go to separate places for your drivers license and vehicle registration.

Grandma J knows she's boring her Texas Ke-mo-sah-bee's, but all this is still new to her.   In other words she's still learning the ropes, so to speak.

Last December, Grandma J bought a new car.   Then several months later she moved from The Compound to The Spa.   Here we are, and it's December again, and she should have gotten a renewal notice for her car registration.   Of course if she had bothered to submit an address change, she would have gotten one two months ago.

So, today it was off to renew her vehicle registration.   For that Grandma J likes to drive a few miles east to the town of Belton, Texas because it's the county seat small, and laid back.  There's no line, and only two people at the counter.   Easy peasy....$72.50 and off we go!

Now there is more to  the town of Belton, Texas   that Grandma J likes.....it's a bit country, and funky.   Here's a peek at a few things that make it a couple bubbles off center.....

Let's start with this green house .  It's on a main street with no parking, so it's hard to get a good picture.  Grandma J loves it this time of year because the occupants go all out and put a red bow on the mailbox for Christmas!  Don't you hate it when people get so carried away?

Now who doesn't love a car wash called Sea Horse Car Wash?   Especially when the closest ocean is about 200 miles away.  Don't you love the underground utilities?

But then again, what else would you call a car wash that had sea horses on the walls?

It warmed Grandma J's heart to know that here in the heart of Texas prayer is still allowed in public schools...but that's only because they purged spelling from the curriculum!

Amen

Well had I know all I needed was a red bow I could have been done decorating! And around here if you say the "Christmas" word in school you may get suspended! We sure could use a little Texas in our public schools!

I have to agree with Queen Noe Noe Girl. Who cares about spelling lessons when we all have spell check and sign language. Can I send my kids to Texas for the Christmas Belssing Luncheon? Oh wait, it's for the familles. I'm coming too.

That school sign scares me a little.

That looks like a quaint town, hopefully your Texas version of the DMV went better than mine. My registration expired too. But I can't get a new one because of some crap related to my divorce. It's very, very frustrating. In the mean time I am driving around illegally because I have no choice.

Take us on another tour, Grandma J. that was fun.

Some of your commentaters (are they related to regular 'taters?) are so clever.

Our legal offices are all in the same building too, and there is hardly ever a line. They actually have 4 regular girls to do the job, and 3 more 'upper' ones to take over the over flow.

I love the house! I love the red bow! Maybe I'll put up a bow on the mailbox since I've already taken down the tree!

Boy, do the kids here need a belssing luncheon something fierce?!?
Glad you got your papers and all that stuff the legal way...makes life so much easier when you get pulled over by the fuzz. You know, you would not do well in jail. :)

That is surely a high-energy town. What do sea horses have to do with washing cars? Do they spew water and soap out of their mouths?

I'm leaving the school sign alone just in case I everr move to Texes and get a jobe puting the leters up on school sings.

Evidently, that little town has been hit hard by the economy. Poor things, they had to fire the Spelling POleece;)

NOW I know where all those people with misspelled signs/placards during the Tea Parties got educated or not educated properly.

I hope that Green house's neighbors dont get upset about that red bow ...

Love that house! I've always wanted to live in an old ~Painted Lady~.
Really now, when you're going to post a photo and make a comment that funny you really must warn us so we're not taking a sip of some beverage! No warning and there'll be liquid all over the keyboard and screen! That last one was simply priceless!

Maybe that school is trying to decrease enrollment. That would be one way to handle overcrowded classrooms. Scary.
The DMV--woman that place is hell on earth; in any state.

When we came here I couldn't find one. Took forever to get the "tag" place figured out and get my license at the police dept. Two separate places. But the real trick was turning on the power. I went to the electric company (no PG&E) and didn't know the GAS company was also a separate company until I froze my keister off.(When it thawed it doubled in size)

Ha Ha Ha Ha LOVE the red bow on the pretty house. That is too funny : ) I also love the sea horse car wash. Very swanky... : )

Most of all, I love that the school that does not teach spelling, still believes in prayer and blessings.

It's a good way to live! : )
