Life Comes At You Fast

Yesterday, Grandma J tried to avoid the subject of birthdays, but someone always let's the cat out of the bag. Then the fun begins with a barrage of wonderful gifts, emails, blog comments and cards full of birthday wishes. The door bell never stopped ringing........oh wait, Grandma J doesn't have a doorbell, but she does have ringing in her ears when she gets overly excited.

So let me personally say Thank you for all the wonderful birthday wishes for many more years of good health insurance and happiness. I know wealth should be in there too, but we gave up on that part of birthday wishes a long time ago.

Here is a taste of what the last half of the day was like. Because the first half was spent lounging in jammies and playing Bejeweled.

Once Grandma J got moving, she picked up her granddaughter for her eye appointment and new glasses. These glasses remind me of the ones she wore in second grade.

Then it was off to pick up the mail....and look what Grandma J got.....

My Colorado cowboys, Ty and Zachy, gave me this really cool gift card to the movie theatre!

The picture is one of the three of us in San Antonio Texas just a few weeks ago! It says: Happy Birthday, Grandma Deluxe

Then it was off to En Fuegos for a TexMex dinner with my daughter and grandkids, who gave me this special surprise.

I love getting huge chocolate covered strawberries! Yes, I shared...everyone got just one.

Thank you, pretty girl for the wonderful dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I appreciate all you do even after a long day at work. Oh and A-Ron...peek-a-boo, I see you!

An extra special treat was reading all the funny comments about Spam! I have to tell you, the one that cracked me up the most was the one by Hollywood (who doesn't have a blog). I'm copying it here because it's just too funny:

hollywood said...
Spam...bad childhood memories. haha. I ran away when I was 5 to the neighbors house w/all my underwear and record player because my mother was making Spam with lemon juice squeezed on it for dinner.

Oh Hollywood, please start a blog!!

Bone a Petite

Bon appétit!

Yes, I decided to see Julie & Julia, and I'm glad I did. I was the only one in the theatre....making me wish it was a musical so I could sing at the top of my lungs and maybe dance in the aisle. Have you ever done that? Have you ever wanted to?

True confessions: Don't tell anyone, but Grandma J danced in the aisles with two of her grandchildren when they saw
Pooh's Heffalump Movie. They were the only ones in the theatre on a dreary weekday, and had a blast.

OK, here's my review on Julie & Julia, since everyone is ticked that Grandma J took too long to post her review has probably already seen it anyway......

Streep mastered the role perfectly, and don't be surprised if she nominated for an Oscar. If she's not, it will be because the story is basically bland....you know, about a blogger who throws her own identity away, and pretty much takes on the identity of her cooking idol, Julia Child.

She dresses like her, and watches videos and reruns of Julia cooking....imitating her moves, and voice. As a blogger, Grandma J was a bit jealous that she hadn't thought about this very idea herself because God knows she could probably eat Julie and Julia both under the table loves butter just as much, if not more than both of them.

Julie, goes through several meltdowns in her quest to cook 524ish recipes in 365 days. Between her job as a public servant, inadequate kitchen, and perfect husband (who tries so hard to understand), she starts to doubt her ability to reach her goal.

Though Julie has a few major disappointments, having nothing to do with her cooking abilities.....she perseveres.

I've come to the conclusion that there's nothing Meryl Streep can't do.....in this instance, it's not just the perfect accent and voice of Julia Child, but the whole body language, and nervous giddy giggling that I remember seeing on a TV show called something like Julia's Kitchen.

The parallels in the movie are quite good....

Grandma J gives this movie four out of five ducks....because she could never de-bone a duck, and that's the truth.

If It's Friday....

....then it's time for a movie!
Grandma J is heading to the theatre. She really wants to see this....

......because it looks funny, and it's based on a true story about an average everyday blogger. Just because said blogger didn't go to Blog Fest in VA is probably is rich and famous, is no reason to dis her.

On the other hand, when I was checking out the local showtimes, I noticed that this cute gem was opening today......

Does this look like a fun movie or what? You know how I love fun movies.....>

Check back later for a two week late review of Julie & Julia, or a review of a new release....(500) Days of Summer

If Today is Friday.......

Then it's time for a matinee!

I went to see G-Force and well, let's just say I did it to make MariaV happy. Hopefully she reads this review before shelling out any cash on this one.

Since Grandma J is busy babysitting JJ at his house all week, because she is too cheap to pay a $500 pet deposit just so JJ can have sleepovers at The Spa she hasn't had much time to go into a whole lot of detail in her blog posts lately.

Her daughter doesn't have high speed internet, but some kind of Clear Wire wifi that's protected and private....and no one is there to help GJ get on-line. So that's my excuse for saying G-Force sucked big time. SER.I.OUS.LY

The movie was....boring, predictable and irritating. Grandma J kept telling herself to get a grip because two of the three toddlers in the theatre thought it was hilarious, and since the movie must have been geared towards that age group, what's there to complain about.

Still....the movie couldn't end too soon.

In a positive note....Grandma J loved the female diva guinea pig named Juarez. Voice over by Penelope Cruz. She was funny and a sexy little thing....

Do you know who is funnier?

This guy! If Grandma J were him, she'd give G-Force One Flag...but since shes not...she's give the movie one set of six flags....representing the six flags that officially flew over the great state of Texas.

RAUNCHY IS LOOKING GOOD

Because Grandma J went to see The Ugly Truth today....due to the overwhelming consensus of her fellow bloggers.

Phillip Johnny Bob was ecstatic going off to the movies with Grandma J. They hummed and swayed to show tunes on the radio as they made their way across town.....only to find out PJB wasn't allowed in the theatre because he was commando he was too young.

It was too warm to leave him in the car, so Grandma J took him back home to the spa. Of course she had to wait for the next show at 1:50....and had to pay the extra 50 cents.

Now, let's talk about the movie....The Ugly Truth, shall we?

Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl) produces a morning news/talk show, and is livid when her boss, who, wanting to boost sagging ratings, hires Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler), a raunchy (I'm loving that word more and more) late night TV personality who exposes the ugly truth about what men like about women.

Abby is single and somewhat controlling. She can't seem to find "Mr. Right" and is not a fan of the advice Mike gives to his audience.

While Abby is appalled at the funny as heck blunt sometimes vulgarity of Mike's advice...her morning show's ratings soar, leaving her alone in her unapproval of the change in programming.

Mike torments Abby's inability to land a boyfriend, and she eventually takes him up on a bet to let him help her find her prince charming.

Even though the outcome is no big surprise, and predictable like most comedy/chick flicks, Grandma J still loved it for it's edgy, teasing, and steamy scenes.

I give The Ugly Truth five out of five bottles of wine....because that's what the blogfest attendees would want.

And look who was waiting for Grandma J when she returned home. Could he look more pitiful if he tried?

*note to Sue from the other side of Temple, across the bridge near the swim park......thank you for commenting. I take my grandson to a pitching/batting coach out on a piece of farmland off Jupiter Rd on your side of the bridge.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN!

Grandma J missed going to a matinee last week because she was on a blogging adventure in Mathews, Virginia. I'm sure you wish I'd shut the heck up tell you more about Blogfest, but it's time for Grandma J to settle down, and take care of business.

Once again Grandma J needs your help, because it's important that she sees a movie that you might want to see. Of course if you like violence, sci-fi, shoot-um ups, or blood sucking scary stuff, you are in the wrong place. Grandma J loves comedies, non-fiction, animals that don't die in the end, Pixar stuff, and raunchy sex if it's in a comedy forum without hummus.

Here are your two choices. I will go with the majority so don't be shy. Let me know before 10:30 CT tomorrow morning because Grandma J goes to the first showing to save fifty cents. That makes every eleventh movie free.

The Ugly truth is rated R, and it's funny and a bit raunchy.....

G-Force is action packed, which isn't usually Grandma J's forte, but it stars guinea pigs, so all bets are off!!

Keep in mind that Grandma J is bringing Phillip Johnny Bob to the movies. He is going through withdrawals because he hasn't seen a movie in weeks! Oh, and PJB wants you to know he likes "raunchy".

ICE AGE: DAWN of The DINOSAURS
....in review

I have to say, I love Ice Age anything! The first two were fun, funny and cute. This third is even cuter, and well worth the extra to see it in 3D, unlike UP!

Where we last left off with Manny (Ray Romano).....

and Ellie (Queen Lativa), his significant other, they hadn't consummated their relationship...buy now they are a couple, and Ellie is pregnant and about to give birth.

Manny is excited at the thought of being a new dad, and not all of his friends like the new Manny, especially Diego the lion (Dennis Leary).

Our favorite character....(OK he's mine), Sid the sloth, wants a family too, and falls through the ice and happens to find three dinosaur eggs in an underground world of dinosaurs....no kidding, what a coincidence! Sid drags the eggs to the surface, and they hatch into adorable babies, much to Sid's delight....or is it demise?

The Mommy dinosaur shows up and the fun begins, but not for Sid! I don't want to give too much away, but Scrat the squirrel is back, as well as the brother possums. The audience seemed to love the movie, with loads of laughs, and it held the attention of kids as well as adults.

I give this movie five baby dinos out of five.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made a snack for the 4th of July. One that the grandkids
love...Oh heck, what am I saying, my daughter was the first to dig in.
That's right.....Rice Krispy Treat stars. There is nothing Grandma J can't make out of Rice Krispy Treat stuff.
She even bagged up the parts left over after cutting out the stars. This was her daughter's favorite part.
Since JJ didn't get any, Grandma J took him for a ride through the hood...looking for "bad guys".
JJ loves his job as the head honcho of the neighborhood watch. Um, that means watching for real bad buys like birds and cats.
And Pat.....here are my 3D glasses! I didn't read your comment until after I saw the movie.
They are for real, and not the red and blue paper ones.
Happy 4th of July, everyone! Pray for our troops that are serving in harms way. Remember all service men and woman currently serving and those who have served. I personally want to thank my SIL 1SG John (and his family) for his sacrifice. Stay safe.
GUESS WHAT TODAY IS?
Yes, it's July 3rd....but more importantly, it's Friday, and we all know what that means......
This week, I'm going to revisit my good friends Manny, Ellie, Sid and Diego and Co. This time I'm going for the gusto, and seeing......
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D
I loved the first two Ice Age movies, so this should be a no-brainer. The exciting part is, Grandma J will be seeing it just the way it is, without any medical enhancements to cause her to laugh like a drunk hyena have memory lapses.
Come back later for the predictable review, and a special 4th of July treat. Oh yeah, you should prepare yourself for something really exciting.
A Tuesday Chock Full...
...of stuff you should have known on Friday.
We all know that Grandma J went to a Friday Matinee last Friday. Coincidence? Probably!
Despite her drug induced haze, and by drug induced we're talking about her wimpy dose of a half Vicodin tablet, she actually saw the movie and basically remembers. Grandma J always thinks that if she takes half the dose, she will only feel half as loony. Silly girl.
Hangover was funny as hell! OOPS! Grandma J just said hell, and she attributes it to the fact that she hasn't taken her meds yet this movie was just that funny....and a bit raunchy, thus the hell reference.
You all should know the story line by now, since the movie came out a month ago....A soon to be groom decides to have his bachelor party in Las Vegas...and we all know what happens in Las Vegas is supposed to stay in Las Vegas......and it does.
Of course, and you probably already know, the groom is the only normal member of this wedding party. He has two friends, one is a school teacher at an all boys preppy type school, and the other is a nerdy hen pecked Dr......who is really just a dentist. The final member of this entourage is the soon-to-be groom's soon-to-be brother-in-law......who is a couple of bubbles off center, and possibly a perv.
They check into a fancy upscale suite at Caesar's Palace. The suite was more that a suite...with a fancy name, but remember, Grandma J wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to details due to her drug problem.
From there Grandma J pretty much misses out on the who dang bachelor party, because the next thing she remembers, it's morning.....
Yeah, it's morning in the movie. They didn't invite us to the party, but we had one heck of a time trying to figure out what the blazes went on all night! The fun is like one of those who dunnit murder mysteries, without the murder, or the who. Are you confused yet?
The movie was hilarious, and a tad raunchy...reminding Grandma J of out of control college frat boys, more than grown, established men....except for the weird brother-in-law to be.
So go see the movie, and laugh your head off because Grandma J doesn't want to give away any of the laugh lines....
Now, on to something else that will make this whole post worth your well invested time...........
Right after Grandma J took her half dose of drugs yesterday, she sat down to read a zillion blogs. She has her laptop situated in a way so it's facing out the window, so she doesn't miss any of the excitement in the hood.
Especially, since she is one of a handful of residence at the Spa. On top of the scarcity of people, no one lives beyond Grandma J's apartment, because they are still in the construction phase.
Something walked past Grandma J's window....she thew on some clothes, and grabbed her camera.......
When she got outside, she was still able to capture a picture of this baby deer! Then she ran back inside to call Animal Control, but by the time she actually talked to someone they told her they don't go out for deer sightings because a slew of them live in the deep and heavily vegetated creek that borders the Spa. Let's hope the baby found his mommy.
IT'S BUSTED
Grandma J went to see Dr. Bob, the orthopaedic surgeon yesterday. Remember last week she had an MRI on her bum knee? Well, he wanted to go over the results with her. And he said it's busted, broke.....
worn out!
He gave her some pain medication, and they discussed the future of her knee...or the lack of future for her knee.
Can you do this? Because it hurts like the dickens when Grandma J tries it....and the sad part is, it's one of her signature moves not gonna get better by itself.
The plan is for Dr. Bob to shoot grandma J up with a ton of cushy stuff that might last a long time if not forever. He's cutting me a deal because it's something the pharmaceutical company wants him to try, and since Grandma J will be a guinea pig they are giving him samples, it won't cost me or my insurance.
Grandma J picked up some flowers at Wally World while she waited for her drugs. This time she got bright ones....orange and red.
Today is Friday....maybe a matinee is a good idea since it will be over 100 degrees again....and oh yeah, did I mention it's Friday?
How about Hangover? Has anyone seen it?
