A to Z Monday....
...the ingestable edition
Brought to you this week by the letter D for.......

Grandma J loves Donuts, and before she retired from her job as a Public Servant, they were shoved down her throat available in the office pretty much every day.

For years they were the usual garden variety like Dunkn Donuts.

And Grandma J loved them because garden variety donuts made her feel oh so healthy.

There were cake, raised, crullers, buttermilk, jelly and custard filled, and a whole bunch of fancy ones with icing and sprinkles.

Then one day people started bringing in Krispy Kreme glazed donuts.  They weren't Grandma J's favorites but she was just one voice among many....mostly men.

But....that didn't cause Grandma J to lose her love of donuts.   She swallowed her pride and politely polished off several ate the Krispy Kreme donuts.

Now, Grandma J wants to take you back to the day when donuts where not just for breakfast or late night snacks....

Back in the late 40's they were considered the perfect party food.   Have you ever seen a happier bunch of people in your life?   All that giddiness without the aid of guacamole dip.

Of course it didn't take long before A&P jumped on the donut party bandwagon with their Jane Parker donuts in 1950.  Except not the the Pacific Coast as they call it.

Can you believe all those donuts and just one pot of coffee?

Do you have a favorite donut?

Now jump on over to A to Z Monday and see all the other edible D words at Jen's blog, Unglazed.   And heck, why not join us?

I am guilty of loving a nice donut too. Chocolate frosted. One can never have too much chocolate.
I can't believe all those donuts, one pot of coffee and NO wine?

That is not a party I would stay at for long. :)

Sadly, I do have a favorite kind of donut! Man, I wish I did NOT love sugar so much. My favorite, favorite kind is jelly filled with sugar on the outside. But, just between you and me and the gatepost, I wouldn't turn down any kind of donut. Sad but true! : )

PS I want to photoshop as good as you. You are amazing.

Grandma J, I prefer Dunkin Donuts to the Krispy Kreme because they have a big variety of different kinds. Some days I'm in the mood for a jelly filled, others a cream filled, and another day maybe one with cinnamon or nuts!! After reading this post, I'd settle for just about any kind though. HA! Very cute post! I'm definitely wanting a donut right now! Hope you have a great week! :)

My favorite is the Kripsy Kreme glazed but RIGHT OUT OF THE OVEN, nice and warm. The best.

You brought back such memories with the A&P and the Jane Parker donuts. I'd forgotten all about those.

BTW-your donut purse is absolutely adorable.

There is a very real part of me that wishes I liked donuts. It seems they're always available and those who like them are just so delighted when they see them--their eyes light up.

But they turn my stomach.

I'm not much for sweets and pastries, but every so often an old-fashioned donut sounds delish.

I used to love the Dunkin Donuts Kreme filled. You know it's bad for you when they can't even spell it right! That filling of shortening and sugar was just so good. Now I don't think I could finish one. But then again, don't tempt me!

I must be the only person around who does not like donuts! When I buy them for work I make sure to get a plain cake with no glaze...just for me...I would rather have a hot roll or biscuit....don't get me wrong...I love junk, especially chocolate...but not cakey things.

Happy MONDAY! lMnop lying in the warm sand in SLO, CA!

I hoped someone would pick donuts! Thanks for that. I love 'em, especially when they're hot out of the oil! I have to say when Crispy Creams were in Phx I jumped on THAT bandwagon pretty fast. Oh the white cream filled. To die for!
Happy A-Z Monday! X-Cassie

Love glazed donuts or honey dipped as I called them when I was a kid.... and today is "Donut Tuesday" too, how appropriate!

A terrific post. How I fondly remember Jane Parker cinnamon donuts. I could munch down an entire dozen in one sitting. No coffee needed, just a tall glass of milk.
Some today would state that donuts aren't healthy. But who said anything so sinfully delicious as a Jane Parker cinnamon would be totally beneficial to your health.
You just couldn't eat just one.
