With a Promise and a Lick

On Sunday night, Grandma J la la loves to watch The Amazing Race, and then Celebrity Apprentice.  Here in Texas, Prime Time starts at seven, so on Sundays, it's a special treat to have dinner in the living room, smack dab in front of the TV.

But Grandma J is trying be be sensible about her dietary intake......she's come to the realization that it's not so much what she eats, but the quantity of food taken in.

This Sunday, the decision was made to skip dinner and go straight to the dessert.

JJ likes this idea too....except he's not allowed to beg, and Grandma J never gives JJ any of her food.

She does let him lick the plate or bowl to save on dish detergent and water  once she is done.   He just sits there and stares at her....and stares some more.

But, sometimes Grandma J fore goes a bowl and eats right from the carton.   Especially if it's a pint  single serving size carton.  JJ just dives right in to lick up the remnants.

He knows it's well worth the wait, and he never misses a drop......

* Tomorrow I hope to have some really cute photos from the St. Baldricks Day Shave-a-Thon!!

Where Did The Week Go?

It seems like yesterday that Grandma J was heading 85 miles down the road to Austin to pick up two handsome young men from Colorado!

This is the final luncheon they shared with A-Ron, right before a final afternoon of X-Box. Of course nuggets would be the meal of choice.

The day of departure came way too soon.

It's so hard to say good-bye to afternoon and evening swimmers.....midnight ice cream treats, and hairbrushes......

.......now I need a tissue or two.

TWICE AS NICE

Recently two different bloggers bestowed the coveting Lemonade Award on Grandma J. I'm humbled when this happens....not that I've ever gotten the same award from two different bloggers before.

Tabitha, at I Choose Bliss, gave me this award last week when I was line dancing with Soupy Sales on the West Coast. Tabitha has just about the biggest warmest heart in the whole world. Check out her blog and you will be in awe of all the wonderful acts of kindness she does.

Then today, my BBFIA
Hula Hank, bestowed the same award on me because he is infatuated with women who have large bladders long eyelashes. And for those of you who think you know me well, please don't ruin Hula Hank's image of Grandma J....no matter! Hank lives in Australia and has several Wallabies that come to his backdoor step every morning for breakfast.

I actually had breakfast with Hank one morning too....but not on his backdoor step. Hank was kind enough to invite several family members and this mutual blogger friend, and this one too.... along for the purpose of creating a party atmosphere...in the heart of LA.

Believe me when I tell you this...I hate being recognized with awards almost as much as I hate having to pick new recipients. It just makes me want to reaffirm your suspicions that I'm wonderful feel unworthy to the point of telling you all the reasons why I should never be awarded stuff....unless it's cash ice cream.

So here is what I want to do... I want to award this Lemonade Blogger Award to everyone west of the Rockies. Come get your award, and re-award it to your favorite bloggers.

Thanks again to
Tabitha and Hula Hank! Now, go visit their blogs!

IT DOES A BODY GOOD, WITH HOT FUDGE

I'm an ice cream lover like none other. There was a time when I could down a pint a night watching TV and never gain an ounce....but then something happened...the earth started turning on its axles or antler, and all of a sudden a pint of ice cream would miraculously morf into three pounds of hip or thigh. Am I crazy? Does the math even make sense? 16 oz = 3 lbs squared.

I quit buying the stuff. Once in a blue moon I'll get a Wendy's Frosty, or maybe I'll raid someone else's freezer for an ice cream drumstick, but it's not daily.

Yesterday I read something that might ruin my appetite for ice cream for good.
Yep, PETA sent a letter to Ben & Jerry's asking them to switch from cows milk to human milk in their ice cream. They claim the cows are forced to get pregnant every gestation cycle so they continually produce milk.

They claim cows milk is bad for humans and is linked to all these illnesses:

allergies, heart disease, colic, flatulence, breast cancer, autism, diabetes, sick children, obesity, constipation, osteoporosis, acne, ear infections, prostate cancer, mucus, Crohn's Disease, beer, lactose intolerance.

They claim the cows aren't happy. Are they half crazy? I personally know that dairy cows are the happiest cows around.

What about Janice here...she's one of the California Happy Cows....named after me. Shes seems pleased that she's not top sirloin.
Then there is Diane....she's a Happy Cow too....and Dianne is my middle name. Who named these cows?

So friends, I think I will be keeping a close eye on the ice cream industry. I will definitely start reading labels for content. I'm just a bit too old for breast milk, from any one's mother.

Here's the real clincher...PETA has it in for M & M's. No one messes with my M & M's!

All opinions are mine. None were intentionally meant to hurt the feelings of any human, cow, or candy lover. Amen.

THE BARON, PART IV

Jack had an air about him that gave strangers the feeling that he must be someone important. He was very well mannered, well groomed and his aloofness made people basically give him the royal treatment.

He didn't have the typical physical appearance that some retarded people have. It usually took strangers quite a while to recognize the fact that Jack was mentally challenged because he was good at role playing. The fact that his parents were never ashamed of him, and never hid him away when he was growing up says a lot about their determination to make Jack fit in. Typically, retarded people are very good at mimicking behavior and in Jack's case, he had an extensive vocabulary that fooled people into thinking he was very worldly. My grandparents traveled extensively in their later years, and Jack went with them to numerous countries and cultures.

We were all amazed at the royal treatment Jack received in public. The stories were numerous. I have taken Jack to fancy restaurants, and let him give the hostess his name for the waiting list, only to have her seat us right away...practically bowing to Jack! I would ask him what he said to get to the top of the list and he never had an answer.

So, that's just a bit more insight into the man I always called The Baron. The man who wanted to marry me. The man who told everyone I was is favorite....and no bribe in the world could make him change his mind. It was for no other reason than the fact that I was silly. Jack loved silly. Jack used to say I made him hi.steer.a.cal. I was also someone who loved having Jack around. Even when he wouldn't lend me $2 for gas, telling me "if you run out of gas, you'll learn your lesson". I loved making time for him and taking him places like zoos, the beach, and there was always that banana split or any ice cream to win him over.

Now I have a cute story....one that I've hinted about. Jack going to confession. Jack went to confession all the time. He was raised strict in the Catholic faith, and my grandparents used this as a tool in handling Jack, keeping him in check. Don't get me wrong, my grandparents were very strong in their faith, and Jack followed suit...in the tradition of mimicking as well as a basic understanding of Christianity.

Their parish priest knew Jack, and in keeping with my grandmother's wishes, always reminded Jack of the ten commandments, specifically Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother.
The priest would ask Jack, if he was good to his mother at the close of each visit to the confessional.

On the weekends that Jack would spend with me and my family, I would take him to confession with me. I would make sure I went in before Jack so I could explain the situation to the priest. I mean I didn't want the priest to take anything Jack said the wrong way....and of course we never knew what the heck Jack said when he went to confession...so a heads up to the priest was in order.

This one particular Saturday, I go into the confessional, and before leaving give the priest the lowdown on Jack. I open the curtain to come out, and a strange man enters the confessional....Jack is no where in sight! I quickly went looking for Jack and found him exiting the restroom. I told him the priest was feeling ill, and said Jack could just say The Act of Contrition on his own, that was fine. We high tailed out of there.

Seriously? Did I want to be there when that man came out of the confessional? I'm wondering what the man thought about the priest asking him if he was good to his mother.

FRIDAY MATINEE ON MONDAY

I have several options this week! Yippie! Of course I'm going with the fluff one. The girlie one.

THE HOUSE BUNNY....starring Anna Faris,

and featuring Rumer Willis, the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.

I can't help but notice how much Rumer looks like her mother. Of course it's a bit unsettling to see someone as beautiful as Demi Moore going down that Botox Road. You would thing these people would invest in a good mirror.

See ya later......

INDIANA JONES and CINEMARK review

I have to confess something. I have never seen any of the Indian Jones movies before, and I probably wouldn't have seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, if there wasn't the promise of a free "surprise". This was also the grand second day opening of our sixteen screen Cinemark Theatre.

You can tell by the crowd in the parking lot that Grandma J arrived at the crack of dawn early so she could be one of the first 100 people and get a surprise.

Inside there were several people waiting to buy tickets. Doing the simple math in my head, I knew I was one of the first hundred. After I purchased my ticket for $6.50, because they only have a senior discount on Mondays, I wandered over to buy a double scoop of butter pecan ice cream.

I don't know why, but I always feel compelled to ask for hot fudge get a double scoop.

I must say, Veronica was right, Cinemark has the best seats in town because guess what? They recline a bit, and I swear there is memory foam in the seats. The arms don't rise up, which is a negative in my opinion....like anyone asked.

Now, I mentioned that I've never seen an Indian Jones movie before. I don't think I will see another one any time soon. The special effects where great, and Harrison Ford is a good looking talented actor but it was very unrealistic in the fact that no matter what, Indiana Jones' hat never fell off. Not even going over waterfalls the likes of Niagra Falls. Speaking of which, five people in a topless military vehicle circa 1950, go over three huge water falls and no one falls out, and the vehicle always lands upright in the water. PUH LEEZ!

Take a look at the stuff in my "surpise bag". Jealous, aren't you? The plus for anyone in SoCA, there is a new interactive feature at Disneyland with Indiana Jones. I was one of the first to partake, even if I am in Texas.

FRIDAY MATINEE

I've been waiting for this movie to come out ever since I saw the previews. But this morning, after reading the reviews I almost changed my mind about seeing it. I love a good comedy but if it get's too silly then I lose interest. I don't like slapstick comedy either. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it.

Patrick Dempsey is hawt! I don't watch that show....Anatomy on Fire, or whatever it is he stars in as McNugget McDreamboat. I don't know what Michelle Monaghan has starred in before, but I liked her in Made of Honor.

Made of Honor was romantic, funny, and just plan sweet. Throughout the whole movie, there was a tease element....I liked that. The only drawback for me, was reading the reviews and expecting the movie to go flat. It was a distraction. What was not a distraction was my snack. I usually stop off and pick up a deli sandwich or bring something from home.

Since I was running late and didn't want to pay twelve bucks for a soda and hotdog, I grabbed this out of the freezer, wrapped it in a WallyWorld bag and stuck it in my purse.

Grandma J, without hesitation, gives this movie.......

a big thumbs up!

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!

So don't miss it......

"Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes, 'cause everyone knows, brother loves....." ICE CREAM!

That's right, Neil Diamond is taking me you have to head on over to your local favorite ice cream parlor tonight because 31 cents is really a steal. The catch is, this real deal is from 5pm -10pm only. All 2,700 locations nationwide are participating which is just fine with me since I live in a DQ only kind of town that frowns on real ice cream. So, someone have a scoop of Butter Pecan for me.

halle-hallelujah!

*this is a public service announcement and in no way endorses DQ.
