Back By Popular Demand

Tomorrow is Friday, and you might remember that Grandma J used to go see a matinee every Friday for three weeks in a row.

 Lately there haven't been too many movies that Grandma J wanted to review on her blog because she has a zillion grandkids, and  she tries to stay within the family friendly perimeters of  PG movies.

For instance, a couple of weeks ago she went to see Hangover 2, and if she had given a review on her blog, and her grandkids saw it, they would probably correct her she would have gotten in trouble.

This Friday she is going to throw caution to the wind and go see ..........

Grandma J saw the trailer for Bad Teacher when she was in the theatre to see Hangover 2.   It looks a little racey, but come on, if Grandma J looked like Cameron Diaz there's no telling what she'd do.   Ok, that's just a hypothetical comparison or something similar.

Besides, Grandma J really likes Cameron Diaz's carwashing and acting abilities, and she thinks she's funny.

So, check back later in the day for the review.  If you happen to go see it too, be sure and share your take on it with Grandma J.

Grandma J Needs Your Help

Today Grandma J is gonna buckle down, bite the bullet, and do some major cleaning.   By major cleaning she means make her bed get down on her hands and knees and scrub stuff and then do some spit and shine stuff.

And no, you don't have to indulge in this drudgery of chasing dust bunnies.   What Grandma J needs from you two loyal friends is much more important and serious.
Please pull out your hair all your resources like your newspaper, or theatre  guide.......jump on your pony Internet browser and scour the web.....

And find Grandma J a good movie for her long lost Friday Matinee....because she's more than ready to escape this Texas humidity see something entertaining, funny, or not.

Majority rules...Grandma J will let you both decide...

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

It's been ions since Grandma J's been to a matinee.   Ever since she started her aqua aerobics class she's been too water logged busy frolicking for two hours a day in heavily chorinated water.

Today that all changes...she's going to see a movie with two of the funniest people on the planet.   Especially her favorite actor from her new favorite sitcom....The Office.

So, after aqua aerobics, Grandma J is off to ruin the first seat behind the rail see Date Night in her wet bathing suit, hidden under her clothes.

Hasta....

Today and Tomorrow
......in that order

Now that the snow has melted , it is safe for Grandma J to roam freely thoughout the town.   It's amazing how far behind a person can get when they are home bound for a couple of days....unexpectedly.

High on the list was a trip to the post office to get my way overdue mailing out......watch your mailboxes for them if you emailed me your address.

Jack was working....you remember him, don't you?   He still had his manboobs doesn't have his ponytail anymore........but he's thinkin of growing it back.

 But he did show Grandma J his newest tattoos.  Grandma J wonders if he can still get a suntan, and if he can, do the flames around the juke box turn purple?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow is Friday, and yes, Grandma J is going to a matinee.
She's gonna see Cop Out with Bruce ::heartthrob::  Willis and Tracy Morgan.   It's an R rated adult comedy which means it's probably sleazy like Hangover......and right up Grandma J's alley.
review to follow.
The Young Victoria
a review
I was really looking forward to seeing The Young Victoria on the big screen, and thanks to it's three Oscar nominations, it's back  in theatres.
One reason Grandma J wanted to see The Young Victoria is to disspell the image of Queen Victoria as a strict, and crotchity old bag stern unyielding, matronly monarch.
Young Victoria, starring Emily Blunt is next in line to ascend the British throne.  Victoria's uncle,  King William ( Jim Broadbent) is dying and her mother, the Duchess of Kent (Miranda Richardson) tries to control access to the young Victoria.  as a side note, Victoria banishes her mother once she becomes queen.
In the meantime, the powers that be try to arrange a romantic connection between Victoria and her Belgian cousin Albert (Rupert Friend).  She is clearly not having any of this, but agrees to stay friends with Albert and allows him to correspond with her when he returns home.
After her coronation at the age of 18, Victoria goes through  attempts to control and persuade her during a period of world-changing events.  Victoria is a fast learn of the ways of politics, relying on the advice of the Prime Minister and Albert.
The Young Victoria takes you through a historically correct period.  She does find true love and marry....that's all Grandma J is gonna say about that!
Grandma J loved the beautiful period costumes and pageantry of this movie.  It's an artful, romantically historic biography.  Emily Blunt really brought young Victoria to life.
Yes, this is a five crown movie!   Go see it while it's back in theatres.
T.G.I.F.
It's that time again....yep Friday Matinee.
Once again Grandma J is having a hard time deciding on what movie to see.
She's been wanting to see Young Victoria for some time now and it went away before she got a chance to see it.  Now that it's nominated for some Oscars, it's back in theatres.  It will probably be there  until after the awards, but Grandma J doesn't want to miss it again.
Then there is Valentine's Day!  This movie didn't get good reviews but it's chock full of stars.  Movie stars.
So, which one should she see?
Youth in Revolt
the review...which is late because the only showing in town was at 10:00 a.m.
(Click to enlarge)
So, Grandma J had to drive to a neighboring town forty miles away to see it.  then she came home and had four martinis took a nap.
Michael Cera stars Nick Twisp in his usual role as a virgin nerd.  He's a teenager whose love for Sinatra music and such makes him a bit more sophisticated than the average dweeb.
Nick is less than thrilled when he has to go on vacation with his trailer trash mother, Estelle (Jean Smart who played the First Lady on 24), and her crude disgusting boyfriend., Jerry ( Zach Galifianakis, "The Hangover") to his broken down trailer at his summer camp  on a lake.
Things lighten up for Nick at the lake when he  meets Sheeni, (Portia Doubleday) the girl of his dreams  and he falls head over heals for her.
Sheena is bright and shares Nick's love of  foreign films and older music.   There's a hitch or two....Sheeni's parents and her boyfriend....an older handsome, athletic boyfriend named Trent (Jonathan Bradford Wright of  Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist  fame).
Sheeni lives 200 miles away from Nick, so he moves in with his father, George, who has a younger girlfriend Lacey.
Nick invents an alter ego for himself, Francois, who is debonair, cool, suave (with a moustache) and a smoker....everything that Nick isn't.
This alter ego advises Nick to break out and do things he would never dare to do as Nick.  His escapades, along with his one and only friend, Vijay, (Adhir Kalyan) get him involved in criminal shinanigans and other stuff like creating fiery traffic hazards.
Youth in Revolt is a cute boy meets girl, loses girl, boy goes after girl movie.  It's one of those coming of age movies with some cute, funny and new twists.  It was very entertaining, and  I enjoyed it.
I give this movie four out of five stars.
That's right!  Grandma J is seeing a Friday Matinee
on Friday!
It's Up In The Air
I've only heard good things about this movie, so it's been on my radar.  Then it got all those nominations and Grandma J's heart starting beating fast.   Well no real fast, but since this movie has already been out for a couple of weeks,  just the thought of missing out on this movie raised her anxiety level.
This part of the movie should be good.   Just a wild guess, but Grandma J would think any part of a movie with George Clooney is good.
Back at you later with the review!
