BASEBALL & BAKE SALES

Two things Grandma J thought she knew all about. You know how it works....you make some three hundred cookies or cupcakes and sell them for fifty cents. At the end of the day, you have enough money to go have pizza to pay the entry fees for the next tournament two states away.

Since the ball players had to actually do all the selling because the fathers were busy negotiating a group rate at a hotel for the team and family members, and the mothers were busy practicing Karaoke washing uniforms and packing for the upcoming tournament weekend.

So, A-Ron asked Grandma J to make something different...and by different he wasn't talking about Grandma J's famous fortune cookies. He wanted her to make something special that would taste good for a change. One of his favorite snacks.... So she did.

First you melt stuff......

Then you make it blue.......

Then you add secret ingredients and ....VoilĂ ! You have a Cookie Monster Rice Crispy Treat.

Or two. A-Ron hawked them off for $5 each. He said they sold like hotcakes and he could have sold ten more.
Now, let's play ball!!

Spring Break On The Home Front

Yesterday Grandma J spent time with the girls who didn't go to Cancun, or Cabo San Lucas to lay on the beach and party at night. They didn't want to hang out at a ski resort, taking to the slopes by day, soaking in hot tubs under the stars at night.

That's right, while other pretty girls were frolicking in the surf, these beauties were baking and decorating cupcakes and mini cupcakes for Easter!

That's because tomorrow they are sending an Easter Basket to
SGT John in Iraq. Some of you are wondering why I would take a picture with the pantry door open...showing all the Mac & Cheese, chips, and other good stuff like Chees-Its. Well, the door was closed...

But remember these dudes? The ones who accused Grandma J of trying to poison them with her homemade fortune cookies? Yeah, these boys were hiding in the pantry and came running out...not wanting to be involved in any of Grandma J's baking extravaganzas ever again.

"...Grandma tried to poison us"

That's the message that my middle daughter relayed to me over the phone.

I told you I would report back on how my guinea pigs grand kids liked my fortune cookies. Well, here is the blow by blow, starting with my granddaughter.

first she had to open it up to read her fortune......"what? my dog is going to be a daddy? When?"

Then she took a nibble out of her cookie....

Me: So, is it good ?

Granddaughter: Uh, sure....it's good.

Me: Take another bite, then chew it and swallow.

Granddaughter: Ok....bites a tiny bite...moves it around with in her mouth.

Me: Now swallow!!

Granddaughter: I did

Me: Let me see...open wide. WIDER! lift up your tongue.

Granddaughter closes mouth, closes eyes....swallows hard!

She sits down on the stairs and JJ consoles her.

Now the boys come in. You can always count on the boys to be straight forward and tell you like it is.

Me: Hey guys, I made you some fortune cookies from scratch.

Grandson: What's scratch?

Me: That means homemade....try one. Read your fortune first.

Grandson's friend reads fortune: ...HUH! "you accidentally wake up 30 lbs lighter.."

Grandson's friend: No way can that happen, I can't lose weight and play football.

Me: How do the cookies taste.

Grandson: Gross

Grandson's friend: They taste like poison....are they poison?

Grandma J knew they were gross. They didn't look like, or taste like fortune cookies...at all!
