It's Whats For Breakfast

My good friend M posted on her blog,  *, about finding her favorite long lost candy bar.  That got Grandma  J thinking.....
why do I jump from writing in the first person to third person so much?

What she was really thinking was how much she loves her new favorite candy.

It's coconut flavored, with chocolate.  Grandma J loves coconut in any shape or form.

It's this........

Yep, it's yet another new M&M flavor.   Grandma J la la loves them!

and.......

Around here, it's what's for breakfast.

Tell me what your favorite candy or snack is?   How do you get your sugar high?

The Postman Cometh

Yesterday I received a much anticipated package. The sender said it should be here by Friday, but I knew better. This Compound I live in is deep in the heart of Texas....land of wide open spaces and slow mail service. What that means is I wasn't disappointed at all when it didn't arrive on Friday. I was hopeful for Saturday, but thought Monday was the more likely day of arrival.

I was delighted to see it when it arrived on Saturday!!

There was an inner envelope...which heightened my enthusiasm.....Flat Caroline was finally here!

YES! Isn't she cute? But there was another surprise. Something homemade, and personalized for Phillip Johnny Bob!

Marey at hijk made him an Easter scarf with his initials embroidered on it...and a border of ribbon that said Easter Blessings! So friggin perfect for Phil to wear this Easter.

Then PJB read the instructions for Flat Caroline. We have to take her to meet JJ and maybe go somewhere very Texas, then send a postcard to Caroline's school and a picture of her here doing something Texas-ish.

Monday, Flat Caroline will be headed to the warm Gulf of Mexico for a visit with Suz. If Suz still can't get her garage open then Flat Caroline can ride around town with Cocoa and Ozzie on the Dyson.

Giving Thanks Doesn't End Here

This is where I get serious and do my best to get in touch with your softer side.......as I take you don't memory lane. My memory lane.

Five years ago, most of us sat down to our usual Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Some of us probably were unfortunate enough to have strep-throat. Some others may have just had surgery or lost a love one. Not everyone had a great day.

This is a picture of my grandson Andrew five years ago, toasting his father, and giving thanks..to be alive. Andrew had just turned three, and was diagnosed with leukemia when he was two. You can read his story here. He didn't even have the "good" leukemia....yes there's a leukemia that they actually call the good one. Try telling that to any parent with a child diagnosed with any leukemia.

Tell that to Marey. Marey's teenage daughter Ali, was also diagnosed with leukemia. Fast forward five years and she is accomplishing so much with her life. You can read her story here.

Over the last five years, I have come to know hundreds of children with cancer. It pretty much became my life. I read Caringbridge Sites every night checking on kids. I can honestly say I have been to more funerals for children in those five years than all the ones for adults in my life.

Marey and Postcard Cindy, (a name she was given by a cancer dad she never met in person), have been holding fundraisers every Christmas season to help two families keep their heads above water while there child goes through bone marrow transplant. Even with the best insurance, some families travel cross Country, incurring housing and living expenses above and beyond the norm to save their child's life.

This year, they are holding a raffle over at Marey's blog,
ELEMENTO-P . Go on over and check out the items being raffled off. There are some beautiful handcrafted items, and I personally made the one blanket which is similar to the ones I deliver to the Peds/Onc ward here in Central Texas for Christmas.

These are the two children Marey and Cindy are helping this year:

Ivan, a 17 year old man whose relapsed leukemia has sent him to transplant. He is at LPCH and is doing well. He is the oldest of 6 children and we would certainly love to help them out this season.

Austin is another relapsed 4 year old leukemia patient. He had 2 years of treatment, relapsed and is now going to transplant. You can read more about him at his site.

If you are still reading this....Thank you. Now go check out Marey's blog, and check back often for new items to be added. I have a link at the top of this page on the left.

STEP BROTHERS
= SUPER!

I love it when I see a movie that I almost passed up, and end up loving it. Somehow the real critics and I don't see things the same lately. I thought Step Brothers was hysterical and then some. There is a performance towards the end that satisfied a nerdy part of me...but I'm cool like that, and have learned to embrace the nerd in me.

Go see it without reservations, you won't be sorry. My friend
Marey reminded me about what a great guy Will Ferrell is off screen:

"Will Ferrell auctioned off an "extra" part in that movie on eBay and the proceeds all went to a cancer scholarship for kids who had/have cancer....so I will see the movie no matter what the review because he donates a lot of time and money to the cause...and also because Daughter #1 gets a scholarsihp from that....and Pooper could too....in about 10 years :)"

Marey's Daughter #1 and my grandson Pooper are both leukemia survivors. They traveled that journey around the same time. So when people like Will Ferrell reach out to cancer kids it means the world to us. So when you laugh your silly head off watching Step Brothers, keep in mind what a big heart that goof ball has!

And because I'm so tickled? I invited the Step Brothers to my aqua aerobics today

YESTERDAY'S LUNCH TODAY

I was up and about very early this morning. It seemed so strange to be driving somewhere with a purpose before seven a.m., with the sun just rising over the horizon. Driving with my headlights on. It was so mainstream, so deja vu for me. Before I retired, work started at seven, which meant I was on the road by six-thirty every morning. That was the routine for years, and today, it felt strange but good.

After my appointment I went grocery shopping. For the first time in a long time, I didn't buy any junk...well no ice cream or cookies. I decided to buy the fixings for a patty melt. For some reason, I hadn't had one since leaving CA. So, I get the rye bread, Jewish Rye...because I think it has the most flavor, and it's probably kosher. I bought some frozen, pre-shaped, ground angus....and some nice big tomatoes.

So blah, blah, blah.... I get home, put stuff away, clean up the leaky liquid dish soap and start to fix my patty melt. I try to stay away from cheese because it's binding...and I'm getting used to going without it. Just don't let the California Happy Cows know, because for them? It's the Cheese!

Yeah, OK, so I can just see you guys drooling over this. The really exciting part for me is the retro diet pepsi glass that I got at a gas station in the 80's. I just recently unpacked it. And this is what the other side says:

This picture is courtesy of E-Bay. ...uh huh!

Then, since I'm already flashed back to the 80's....I hunted down this relic from 1978 for tomorrow's coffee. It's from McDonalds.

That's how it went today.....I can't help but believe that she is the one who recently put me in this retro state of mind.

Marey, the quality is poor because the picture is old, but I thought you might like this.

MY APOLOGIES FOR THE OVERSIGHT

To Be Specific......I'M SORRY, MAREY AND CORTNEY

The one thing I love about Blogger, is the ability to put polls on this site. It's a tool I use to find out stuff about the people who read my ramblings. Not everyone takes the poll, and now I know why.

I currently have a poll on this blog...yeah, check it out, over there on the right.....and it's flawed. While I try to be all inclusive, I've come to realize not all people are normal roll the same way. In my broadmindedness...I did remember to add an alcoholic beverage, because I don't expect everyone to start the day sober the same way.

I was reading the comment section this morning and I found that I omitted a couple of obvious options. Not only that, but the couple of options were favorite morning beverages of my only two two most favorite readers.

I quickly moved to remedy this oversight. That's right.....I hired these two guys to paint a billboard for me.......
And this is what it said........ That's right, Cortney drinks Coke first thing in the morning. And this is what her breakfast table looks like.

My other good friend, Marey is a wife, mother, teacher and health nut. She is wayyyy smarter than you or me. She loves milk in the morning. And really? Why not? Her milk comes from the Happy California Cows. That's right, they graze along the coast so they can go surfing after they give Marey their milk.

If you show up at Marey's house, this is probably how her breakfast table looks.

And when Marey sleeps in late she just does this! Yes, she does.

So Marey, Cortney, please accept my apology. Milk and Coke are legitimate options, and should have been included.

If anyone else has a favorite beverage to start the day, please let me know. I want to be fair.....because I'm nothing if not fair.
